Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Carnivora
Family: Canidae
Genus: Canis
Species: Grey Wolf
Habitat: The range for the Grey Wolf is Canada, Alaska, the Great Lakes, Northern Rockies, the Pacific Northwest, and North Europe, Greenland, and Asia. They used to be common throughout all of North America but were exterminated in most areas by the 1930's.
Diet: Wolves eat large hoofed animals like elk and deer, but also eat other small prey like rabbit and beaver.
They will often eat prey that already have died of other causes.
Traits: The color of the Grey Wolf varies, in Arctic areas they are white while in southern places they can be black. The Grey Wolf's weight can vary from 35 lbs to 130 lbs while its length can be from 3.25 ft all the way up to 5 ft. The tail itself is is 1 to 1.75 ft, its life expectancy is 10 years in the wild while 20 years in captivation. The Grey Wolf on average will be in packs of 7 or 8 with an alpha male and female who will pick den sites, hunt prey, and essentially lead the pack.
Let's give an example of how evolution would work. If a forest fire in Europe happened and the wildlife were forced to migrate because humans started settling in the burnt down area. The Grey wolf would move south towards Africa to find prey until it was in Central to Northern Africa in the grasslands or desert. There the grey wolf would first start to get smaller in size about 25 lbs to 110 lbs while also shedding and changing fur color to a lighter color. From that the tail would get slightly longer along with its claws also being longer so it can dig into the dirt and they can chase their prey more efficiently. The Grey Wolf that usually lives in cave dens would dig into the dirt and soil to make a den for their pack.
